Want to start a bullet journal, but not sure what you need to get going? I’m here with the ultimate list of everything you need! Choose one of the start levels below, pick up the suggested list of supplies, then head over to this post here to get set up.
Level 1: Purist
Just the basics ma’am. All you need is a notebook and a pen. That’s it! If you’re a stationery lover like me, you might want to make this your favourite kind of notebook, and your favourite pen. For me right now that’s the Lemome and the Papermate InkJoy Gel. Here’s one of my minimalist bujo pages:
Minimalist and pretty messy too!
Level 2: Click it Up a Notch
If you want to have more layout type pages, you can click it up a notch by adding a pencil, ruler and eraser. You can use them to make layouts like this:
Level 3: Artistic Flair
Want to add some colour and artistic flair, but still keep it minimal? Get a brush pen, and a couple of brush markers. I LOVE the Tombow Fudenosuke hard tip, and Koi watercolour brush markers. I use the grey Koi brush pens, because I like to stick to a minimalist vibe, but you can choose any two to three colours you love. With this upgrade you can make pages like this!
I used brush markers to highlight important points.
In this weekly the brush markers were used to fill in my habit tracker.
That skull is an image I printed out from the internet, then stuck on the page.
As you can see the pages in my bujo are a mix of all three levels. What kind I choose depends on how much time I have, and what my goal is for a particular page. The best thing about this is that all my supplies fit in a small pouch for easy portability
Disclaimer: I do have lots of other pens and markers, but over the last few months I have found that the supplies listed here are all I need to bullet journal. I use the others for my art projects, and for those rare times I feel like going all out on a spread.
So, which level are you at?
