My Zine Making Tools

My Zine Making Tools

I am now five weeks into The 100 Day Project and it is going swimmingly! (You can follow along every day on Instagram). Because I am making a zine a day, I am keeping things as simple as possible and that includes my tools.

One of the great things about zine making is that you can do it with a minimum amount of tools and supplies, you can make your first zine with just a sheet of paper, scissors and a pen. Here are all the tools I have been using.

  • Awl
  • Bone folder
  • Craft Knife
  • Cutting Mat (self-healing)
  • Glue
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Pens and pencils
  • Rulers
  • Scissors
  • Twine and needle

I don’t use all of these every day, most days it’s just my bone folder, craft knife, metal ruler and cutting mat. On the days that I have more time and can make a more complicated structure, then the other supplies come out.

For most of my zines I hand write or hand letter the content. I even do my own line drawings! These are the pens I use.

Tombow Fudenosuke
Ecoline Brush Pen
Sakura
Kuretake Bimoji Brush Pen
Sharpie
Stabilo 88
Bic Marking Permanent

And of course, I had to make a zine about my tools!

Would you like to learn how to make zines? I highly recommend this class on Creativebug to get started. I will also post a tutorial on the blog really soon!
