I talk a lot on here about having a plan, starting with the end in mind etc. but I have to confess that that was not at all my approach for these 28 Days of Blogging. I kinda jumped into this challenge as a way to get my blog moving again, and I am happy to say it worked! I’m pretty amazed that I came up with a blog topic every day for the last 28 days. Granted there were some days when I was just phoning it in, but since I am also doing the 100 Day Project at the same time, and posting my paintings every day, even when I think they look like utter crap, I applied the same restrictions to myself for the blogging.
Now I know that it’s true that the more I create, be that writing, painting, or doodling, the more creative I feel, and the more ideas I have. I was able to adapt things that were just glimmers of an idea in the corner of my mind, into full fledged blog posts that I love.
Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.

So my advice is when you’re feeling stuck creatively, just start. Make a mark on the paper or canvas. Type “I don’t know what to write” over and over until other words come out. Doodle in your sketchbook. If you crochet make a bunch of granny squares. If you knit make some garter stitch squares. Or vice versa! Sometimes if you try something different it can help you get unstuck.
You just never know where it will lead you.
That is a great reminder that I often forget to apply. I need to doodle a little more and remember nobody needs to see what I don’t want to share. My mind often blocks my actions when it comes to painting, drawing, and writing yet I consider those to be the most important part of my retirement life. I fail to have the end in sight thus no beginning. Thanks for this, it is a kind of wake up call for me.
You’re welcome, and it’s an epiphany I had last year when I started using my sketchbooks more. It’s just for me, no one needs to see any of it. 🙂
Congrats on completing your Ultimate Blog Challenge!! I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and will continue to read. Happy writing…
Thanks so much! I have quite enjoyed the month.
You’re absolutely right, Francine. Since I started doing the blog challenge the ideas just keep coming. I’ve enjoyed your writing and your wisdom.
Thank you! I had let my blogging fall off because I didn’t have ideas, Well now I know how to find them!
You are absolutely right. This was my first time participating in the blog challenge. Before the challenge I had a really hard time coming up with something to write. I was able to do it solid for 28 days has really helped to get the writing juices flowing.
It’s pretty amazing right? This isn’t the first time I’ve had the experience, but I keep forgetting to hold on to the lesson. I plan to do better this time!
so wonderful you completed the UBC, and I am glad I found you (even if only towards the end of this challenge).
One other beautiful part of the UBC is its wonderfully supportive community that keeps inspiring each of us to keep at it till the end..
